The Big Dance Shorts 2014 series focused on the creative relationship between Brazil and the UK. Commissioned by Channel 4, Big Dance and the British Council, the shorts were presented in association with BAFTA.
Big Dance Shorts is a partnership between Channel 4 and Big Dance that aims to stimulate new and creative collaborations between dance and film professionals, creating the opportunity to produce new and imaginative works for film.
TANGO BRASILEIRO – a lyrical archive-based film from Billy Cowie and Gabriela Alcofra using film clips from 1930s with a contemporary dancer.
DUAL – a free-style love triangle filmed on a journey in Brazil with hip hop at its heart . A collaboration between Movement director Jonzi D, directed by Margaret Williams.
DUETO – director Sergio Cruz and choreographer Tamarin Stott look at questions of belonging and displacement between UK and Brazil, working with leading ballet dancers Junor Souza and Fernanda Oliveira.
MEMORIAS – filmed on location in São Paulo/Brazil; a moving collaboration between film director Bertie, Brazilian filmmaker Azul Serra, choreographer Ponciano Almeida and the Guarini Dance Company.
